[ MUSIC ] I'm Farnoosh Torabi. Sharing is caring. And when you becomes two, whether you're getting married or just moving in together, depositing both your incomes into one joint account can sort of be the ultimate form of financial intimacy As Derek Olsen, coauthor with his wife Carrie, of the new book One Bed, One Bank Account told me, the oneness that a couple will experience through combining bank accounts can't be achieved any other way. It's true. With one bank account and no other, you inevitably have to communicate about saving, spending, and goal. It's inherently a little simpler keeping track of just one pot of money.

And let's not forget with a sole account versus two or more, you can potentially reduce your monthly account fees. But this system is not for everyone. For some couples, being tethered to one joint account can spark arguments. Maybe you want to get a haircut that costs $ 50 but your partner thinks that's too expensive. Or maybe your rent check bounces because your partner made a big withdrawal and didn't give you a heads up about it. How do you make peace when you have different views about saving and spending or you just want more financial independence for yourself. Yourself. This is when having your own account can come to the rescue.

Now you can keep your shared account for joint expenses. But for things that you wanna buy at your own discretion, have your own separate account in your name. And funnel an agreed upon percentage of your income to that account every month. I'm Farnuze Taraubi for more love and money advice head over to money. com
