Also in attendance was one of the closest confidants of this year's Peace Prize winner, Liu Xiaobo. In an interview with TIME, [ unk ] Kaishi discussed the current government of China and the possible effects of Liu's Peace Prize and openness in Chinese society. >> They impact the government. It is also a very rigid regime, not like democracy. They constantly worry about their position, they're constantly worried because they're not legitimately, elected publicly. So, they have- they have this fear toward any kind of challenge. I hope this Nobel Peace Prize can send a message through the-- I think Norwegian has sent a clear message to the Chinese regime. And yes, we need the Chinese market, Chinese so- called economic engine of the world. But we still have principle. >> Uh- huh. >> Our best Norwegians message to the Chinese and I hope that this is also a message can be widely accepted by the rest of the world too. Unfortunately, in the shorter term, what we see and what we can predict for a short period of time, China probably will strengthen. They're already very harsh, suppressed to the dissident community, to the challenge, any challenge to the authority. And then, I think for a short period of time, we're gonna have to suffer another more. But we're willing to take that-- >> Uh- huh. >> Because-- keep applying the pressure. Pressure always works.
