## Transcript

The world's booming cities, homes of billions of people and the most important factors for mankind's ecological future. The battle against climate change will be won or lost in our cities. Over half of the world's population already lives in urban areas and the people keep on moving into them. Today's cities account for about 80 percent of greenhouse gas emissions. Issues of water and waste management also have a major impact on the environment and the quality of life. Many cities recognize these challenges but if a choice has to be made between the environment and economic growth, the latter often wins out.

Yet, there are many technological leapers for urban ecological improvement and a lot of them even save money over time. For example, take London, one of the world's most pulsating places and the home to about 7. 5 million people, what technological solutions can help London reduce energy, water consumption and waste before 2025 without massively compromising the lifestyle. Indeed, technological solutions already exist for reducing water use and waste and for cutting London's greenhouse gases by more than 40 percent. And the majority of these pay off. The required investment will be less than one percent of London's total economic output over 20 years.

Ecology and economy can win in London and elsewhere in the world and improve the quality of people's lives. Siemens.
