## Transcript

Coca Cola buys up a monster stake in, well, it should be fairly obvious. The soft drink company and the energy drink company announced Coke now has a one sixth stake in Monster. In a joint release Thursday, Coca Cola said it will make a cash payment of $ 2. 15 billion for the acquisition, and will install two members to Monster's board of directors. The two companies are also reportedly swapping some operations around. Coca- Cola will give Monster all its energy drink brands, names including Nos and Full Throttle, and Monster will give Coca- Cola all its non- energy brands. And Coca- Cola holds onto its existing distribution agreements with Monster.

Instead of losing them to a competitor like PepsiCo. Maybe even more important is the opportunity for growth this acquisition represents. A writer for the Motley Fool speculated Monster's international reach would give Coca- Cola a new alternative. To the saturated domestic market. These large companies like Coca- Cola have to go out and buy that growth and that's what they're doing here. So what you do need to think about is what's Pepsi going to do now, are they going to have to buy growth and from who? Coca- Cola's stock meanwhile jumped almost two percentage points immediately after the news broke Thursday afternoon.

Monster jumped more than 30 points.
