## Transcript

Hale can be seriously bad news for cars stuck outside, evidenced by last week's storms from the Front Range in the eastern Rocky Mountains, out across the Plains states. Fallout ranged from hail the size of peagravel in Colorado to baseball sized chunks of ice in Blair, Nebraska that took out windshields. Between the shattered windows and deep dents on so many of its cars, Woodhouse Auto Family in Blair says it expects more than $ 150 million dollars in damage. If there's an upside to large blocks of ice plummeting out of the sky, it's that some of the property damage they cause can lead to savings for auto buyers.

Automotive News reports these hail sales can be so popular, some dealers have actually managed to turn a profit on their damaged merchandise, despite the deep discounts. Omaha World- Herald recommends prospective buyers avoid cars that have taken water damage or those that are dented severely enough to have cracked paint. Other questions the World- Herald suggested, if you're eyeing a deal, does your insurance cover hail damaged vehicles? Will the manufacturer or dealer warranty extend to existing hail damage? And will repairing the dents cost more than you save. The good news is, anything you can still buy probably won't look quite this bad.

Cars that took too much damage in recent storms, are supposed to be marked as salvage, and not be sold. Thanks for watching. I'm Cliff Judy.
