These fishermen have been [ unk ] Bluefin tuna in the waters since the ancient Roman Empire. The method has not changed much. Just like now, it's a fight to the death than the contest between a big and powerful beast and the world market that cannot get enough of Bluefin tuna. [ unk ] mark of the nets, here the fishermen will ambush the tuna as they're swimming from the cold Atlantic to breathe in the warm Mediterranean waters during the summer. For a while, nothing much happens, and then the tuna find themselves trapped in the net. It's too late to get out. The fishermen's excitement rises and the tuna find themselves suffocating. They're struggling to find the exit. Finally, one by one, they start dying on the net. It's a big day here. About 200 tuna are in the holds of the boats. That used to be considered a normal day around here, but no longer. There are fewer and fewer tuna to fish in these waters. -[ unk ] >> They got about between 150- 200 tuna fish today. >> A huge worldwide boom in sushi eating and the heavy over fishing of the Mediterranean has made days like this very rare indeed. So what is going to happen to these fishermen? They say they can barely survive on the tuna they catch these days. Most of the tuna is caught by the most sophisticated ranches set up way off at sea. These fishermen see little future in fishing the Med these days. But here is why they are still catching every tuna they can find. Inside this refrigerated warehouse, the Japanese are waiting to buy the tuna and to ship it directly to Tokyo, the world's biggest customer for these prized species.
