Discovery is diving into a new season of Shark Week, and it's expected to be jaw dropping. Last year's Shark was the most watched ever, and this year's series is expected to generate hundreds of millions in ad revenue. Bloomberg reported over $ 571 million in revenue for their 2012. Series. This year Discovery has partnered with a dozen big name companies like Southwest Airlines, and for the third year in a row, Volkswagen. Shark Week's 2013 Series got over 53 million viewers. New shows like Air Jaws and Alien Sharks average 3. 2 million viewers [ INAUDIBLE ] Shark Week's 2013 had teeth on social media, generating 2.

6 million tweets, up 63 % from 2012's record breaker. The Twitter storm had 11 worldwide trending topics. A big contributing factor was that at each show had its own hash tag. Most of them breeding between 20, 000 and 200, 000 tweets. [ MUSIC ] It was a Twitter sharkpocalypse. This week's shark week is attracting oceans of attention. Retailers, food giants, and production companies are all rolling out all things sharks. Even Sci Fi joined the bandwagon with their new Sharknado [ MUSIC ] Shark Week has been around 27 years, and this year will be the biggest yet. [ MUSIC ]
