## Transcript

June brings with it warm weather, graduation and weddings. As the invitations come in, the question becomes how much to spend on a gift, what kind of gift to give, and how not to break the bank. Here to offer a little guidance, Jill [ UNKNOWN ]. Hi Jill. Hello. What are your thoughts on wedding gift etiquette? Well I think number one, when possible, you really wanna stick to the gift registry. So there's a couple of different feelings about this, and we'll talk about ,- [ LAUGH ] but I just wanna say that normally, I wanna trust my friend to decide what he or she wants, and then give that person what he or she wants, with a caveat.

If they're going to register at the fanciest store in the world, and the cheapest item on the registry's $ 400. 00, then forget it, I'm not going that. So Cash is great, obviously. Every couple will do what they want with that, whether that's the honeymoon or fixing up the house, but how do you decide on the amount? This is a tough one, and I think it depends on your stage in life, number one. It also depends on where the people are getting married, right? Because in certain areas it's not going to be very cool to be giving a $ 25 gift. And also kinda the nature of your relationship and also if im bringing a plus one that also makes a difference, but all and all it has to be comfortable for you and you kinda have to go with your gut and go with what everyone else in the group is doing.

So can you spend a bit less on the gift or the amount that your giving if your travelling for the wedding say or your putting up a lot of money To be in the wedding party. I think absolutely. I mean let's start with the wedding party. Those poor people in the wedding party, they get hosed, because they're spending money all over the place. The dress, the parties. The parties, everything, its crazy. So I think a good idea is, as a group, like the groomsmen, the Bridesmaids get together and they just put a little bit of money in each. They give one nice big gift. but I think a destination wedding, or when you're traveling for one, that is different.

I mean, if you're being asked to schlep across the country or go somewhere else, you're not going to give as much. I will say this. I think some small token is great. I think showing up empty handed is really not cool. So, some little, little teeny, tiny thing, when it is a long Hall or a destination wedding, and frankly I think most people who have a destination wedding are doing it basically because they'd rather you come to that wedding than get a bunch of sheets. Sure, now what about if you do want to go off of the registry, some people may want to get something more personal. What would you say to that?

All right, I heard a great gift that where people went off registry. That there was a couple and it was two women getting married, and they were big bicycle fanatics. And so a bunch of people got together and like a huge group, and they got them each new bicycles. Huge, amazing, but you really have to know that that's something that someone is really going to want. Right? And I think that's a great deed, but you really have to know the couple, and also understand like, do they really want new bicycles, or is it their first wedding, and they're 21 years old and they just need some stuff to outfit their apartment.

So again, you gotta know your customer here And really understand what do they want and what do they need. Perfect Jill. Thank you so much. Thanks for having me. [ MUSIC ]
