And this makes me feel like I'm worth something. >> I'm Ari Karpel with TIME. Today, I am in Las Vegas at the home of Mike Tyson. The former undisputed Heavyweight champs passion for raising pigeons is the focus of Animal Planet's reality show, taking on Tyson. Mike? >> Hey Ari. >> Thanks for having us to your home. >> It's a pleasure to be here with you. >> The reader in Venice, California wants to know, what makes a good fighter? >> Well, a good fighter is not necessarily the greatest fighter that ever lived, is where you wanna go. You know I mean, a good fighter has be diligent and committed and disciplined, doing what you hate to do, but do it like you love it, you know, always testing yourself and forcing yourself to the limits, you know. If you know you like, love women, you can deny yourself that. And I mean, that is what success in general is all about sacrifice. From my experience, win or losses that I may have had, is be willing to sacrifice, you know. Unfortunately, sometimes you can't have fun accomplishing your goals, and then sometimes, people although have the determination and the will, and the steadfastness, the tenacity. They give in to the slightest struggle. The toughest guys we know, think, we hit all the guys, the toughest last longest. No, that is not true. This is not a tough man, tough guy world. This is the smart man's world. Tough guys wanna get hurt in this world. They are dinosaurs now, these tough cycle bad guys. They are not gonna last now. It's the 21st century. >> A reader in Aruba asks, what do you feel in your heart after knocking out an opponent? >> It is job accomplished. You know, this is something you practice over the eight week period, and when you accomplish it, it is just like you have accomplished the training for that knockout. Sometimes if I am, when I was a kid and I had my mental [ unk ], I'd knock the guy out. I would jump up in the air and say yeah, yeah. And he would be, what are you getting excited for jumping around for? What is wrong with you? Why are you acting like this is luck like you have been doing this for eight weeks. You anticipated this happening. Why are you acting like you are surprised it happened when you participated it happening for the eight weeks. Anything different will be a failure. >> A reader in Italy asks, what would you have done differently? Do you have any advice for young celebrities? >> Always premeditate it in your life. We can't yell at them, and we lost the privilege to be what you call a celebrity or a person, or we lost the luxury to curse someone at public or anything, you know, if they got or it became overbearing. So we lose all these beautiful, little cute trinkets, you know, when we get this, whoever they call us, beautiful people, schmucks, phony people, whatever it is, you know, but what I realized in life, my own decision having that, I was at that the more I require, was I became a bigger man 'cause I required so much and I had so much, but what I found out in life is life goes on. Life is about losing. As we get older, we lose our hair, we lose our teeth, we lose our mothers, our fathers, our sisters, and the ones who overcome their loss in life, and shun away adversity and always willing to fight it. Every particular moment in life, are the ones that are able to transcend and be able to spread the word to other people who is in that same particular genre as they are. >> Do you think it's more important to be respected or feared? >> I would like to be respected. Respect is more powerful than love I believe, you know, but how many people out of the obligation of love, Machiavelli, the obligation of love, have we hurt. Just think about it; everybody that's listening to me. I think that the obligation of love is to my sister, my brother. My girlfriend that I cheated on; my boyfriend who I didn't tell him everything; he should have known this was not his child. Whatever the situation may be, you know what I mean? You just have to know this is what it is. And I mean some people can get by with just being respected. Some people get higher for being feared. >> Jet from Laguna Niguel, California asks-- >> That is an awesome neighborhood. That is an awesome neighborhood. I love that neighborhood. >> When will we see you again on the big screen? >> We have a production company called Tyrannic, and we are working on a project. I wish I could tell you, but hopefully with HBO we got a project, and it's just gonna really, you know, God- willing, a lot of things are gonna happen. It's gonna be pretty good, you know, and I'm just grateful. Well yeah, one time can make it gratitude. I'm just really happy everything happened even though I was just really-- I was really on drugs and doing real bad. I'm knocked into prison, I don't know, one day boom. It just happened. Maybe my daughter died, and that's what happened. Things change. I don't know why. What I got was no more. And it's just really bizarre. I was just raising hell. Just chasing people out, just chasing the whole strip club. Was doing really crazy stuff, and I guess there was the time you just try to grow up a little bit with your maturity which was out of whacks. So I don't know, I made this commitment to myself that I'm gonna be, I'm gonna suit up, and gonna come to work, at least ready to work, and just try to do the right thing. I am not gonna harass my wife and treat my wife bad like I've done to my wife and girlfriends in the past. Everything has to be new. I mean, I can [ unk ] have to change. Everything in my life has to change in order for me to be successful. I mean, its life I'm trying to live. >> And finally, what will people remember about Mike Tyson 50 years from now? >> 50 years? I don't know? I'm the most destructive, ferocious fighting machine that God ever created. Yeah, that is what I think. >> Well, Mike, Thank you so much.
