A while ago, a black man, he pulled a knife on me. He tried to have sex without a condom so he put the knife on me, I had to jump out of his trip. And last week, a guy tried to tie me up with a little plastic stuff who was trying to act like he was an undercover police officer, trying to trap me in his trick. >> Prostitutes like this one at a major Truck Stop on Ontario, California have long feared the law. But now they fear for their lives. Over the last 30 years, according to the FBI, hundreds of bodies have been dumped along the highways throughout the United States, victims of serial killers who prey on women who work the Trucker Trade. The FBI believes the murderers are long- hold drivers who searched for easy victims are rest stops like this and many women here have witnessed their violence. >> A girl-- one girl before she's been taken off the trucks that have kidnapped by a trucker and he beat her with a metal thing, put a couple of holes in her head and try to take her to like some designated area and rape her wherever she won't getting away 'cause she was beaten pretty bad. >> I've seen it. I've seen the girls that-- I mean running from the truck and longer I had had the plastic tie straps on her arm where a guy tried to tie her up on his truck and come out of my truck wanted to get in the safe house. >> In 2004, the FBI launched the highway serial killings initiative to track murderers, kidnappings and sexual assaults. Since the initiative began, more than 500 victims and 200 suspects have been identified. >> This truck stopped out here on Ontario is pretty much no nationwide, at least with the truck driver it is. It's very large that one side it can hold at any given time over 600 trucks. Are you a security guard? I've seen a little over 600 arrest, about 400 of them had to do with prostitution and I see a girl right there running. >> I've been driving 15 years probably a million and a half miles. On a busy night when [ unk ] probably 20 to 30 girls out here working. >> Hey, babe. How you doing? >> I'm sorry to bother-- >> In the last few years and a half, I've climbed up in tin trucks to get girls out of them, where the guys get them in and won't let them out. The guys will rape them, take the money, beat them, kidnapped and you'll never know. I've got young daughters and when I see them that's what I'm look at it is my kids and God forbid something happen with my kids were one that was out here, I'd pray somebody was looking out for her so that's what I do. >> The FBI says, the victims in these crimes are mostly women who lived high risk lifestyles involving drug and alcohol abuse and prostitution. They're often picked up a truck stops and service stations sexually assaulted and then murdered. >> Being a prostitute I don't trust stop, it's dangerous. So when I get back at the truck and the first thing I'm thinking about is, is this a good driver or this a bad driver? Are they gonna cut me or are they gonna kidnap me or anything? It's a lot of worries to worry about. I see a lot of girls that been here for a couple of months that [ unk ] still be able to get one truck and you obviously seem to get out of that truck. You know that truck is going and you haven't seen that girls since. >> Long- hold truckers are always on the move, criss- crossing the country. Their mobile livelihood gives perfect cover for someone inclined to kill. Combine that with the anonymous lifestyle of prostitutes. Lack of evidence and witnesses and these crimes are nearly impossible to solve. There's so many girls that are probably gone missing and the world has no idea who they were and what they were about but they were nobody, so nobody cares and how's the dead girl gonna tell her story? She's gone. >> We survived. You know, that many people most going so we have to 'cause life [ unk ] the kids to take care of. >> Sometimes I get scared [ unk ] incident, you know, after being hurt or driver trying to tie you up whatever that scares be the next day but I like my job.
