Bet they do. Well, guess what. They're holding a weapon of mass destruction in their hands. Joining us today is Adam Levin, the author of Swiped. He's a security expert Adam, your children could actually blow up your identity. Is that correct? Totally. If they're using your computer and they click on the wrong link or they provide a little too much information about themselves. Or they take a lot of pictures around the house, selfies, where they don't realize. They are exposing your new car, your work of art, that fabulous new sound system you have in your house. And they're communicating with other people online. And they may be, by providing this information, telling a thief what's there and what they're gonna need to drive it away. [ LAUGH ] Some parents believe that certain brands are actually safer for their kids than others. Is there any truth to that? Well, there is some truth to that. There are brands that have withstood more persistent attacks than others, but eventually someone finds a way to get in. But it's not necessarily the issue of the device your child is using. It's a question of where do they go, what kind of information could they be giving, what kind of links are they clicking on and how much are they exposing themselves. So, what's the messaging we should be giving to our kids about those selfies and those photos and the information they are obviously sharing with an entire generation? Well don't give your real name if you can avoid giving your real name. Especially because you may find yourself deluged by credit card offers as a child, because a lot of websites you visit don't realize that they're collecting information on you. Also if they're using your systems and you have confidential information in your computer And malware gets on your computer and turns it into a keystroke logger so that every time you go on, your login credentials are being transmitted to a hacker or you have financial information on there and someone actually gets in and sees it. That's why I say to people, if you ever do taxes or sensitive financial things on your computer, Loaded on an encrypted thumb drive deleted from your computer, cuz you don't want it there where it could be exposed. And the other thing is that kids are delicious targets for identity thieves. And the reason is because, theoretically They're not using their credit. Does this suggest that you should be checking your kids credit at Annualcreditreport. com every year when your checking your own credit? Well if they're over 13 yes. Also you should be communicating directly with three credit reporting agencies. They will, in one case, create a file and then freeze it. So that no one can get near it. And if you hold the key to that at least until they are 18. I think everyone is going to be a lot safer. I like that idea, Adam Lavin the author of Swipe, Security Expert.
