Many gathered outside his home to sing liberation songs. In the U. S ., President Obama called the antiapartheid leader-- >> He's one of the most influential, courageous, and profoundly good human beings that any of us will share time with on this earth. He no longer belongs to us. He belongs to the ages. >> Former President Bill Clinton tweeted this picture along with the message, I will never forget my friend, Madiba, referring to the Nobel Peace Prize winner by his clan name. U. S. Secretary General Ban Ki- moon called Mandela a source of inspiration for the world while U. K. Prime Minister David Cameron said a great light has gone out of the world. Even NASA paid tribute tweeting this picture of South Africa from the International Space Station. Mandela spent almost three decades in prison for fighting apartheid and is now one of the world's most recognizable symbols of resistance to oppression. At least four major movies have portrayed him. >> This is the time to build our nation. >> Actor Morgan Freeman who played him in the movie, Invictus, released a statement calling Mandela a man of incomparable honor, unconquerable strength, and unyielding resolve. Mandela reflected on his On Life of documentary in 1996. Here's in part what he said. >> When a man has done what he considers to be his duty to his people and his country, he can rest in peace. I believe I have made that effort. Mandela will receive a full- state funeral. All flags have been lowered to half mast and will remain there until after the ceremony. According to provisional South African government documents reportedly seen by The Guardian, Mandela will lie in state for three days at Victoria City Hall before the funeral.
