It's 5. 3 inches, $ 300 on AT & T with a two- year contract, 4G LTE phone, and as you can see, it is comically large. But there's nothing funny about it because it is a serious phone. Now, let's take a look. As for the Galaxy Note's size, it sits in the somewhat uncharted space between a large smartphone and a seven- inch tablet. From the left to right here we've got the 3. 5- inch iPhone 4S, the 4. 5- inch Galaxy S2. A 5. 3- inch Galaxy Note, the seven- inch Kindle Fire, the 8. 9- inch T- Mobile G- Slate and of course the 9. 7- inch iPad. If you'd rather a real world comparison, here's how the Galaxy Note stacks up against bananas and a 30 pound cockapoo who, I can assure you, is not dead, see? So the screen size and its 720p resolution are the real draws here. Especially for navigating web pages and watching videos. And big though the screen may be the phone itself is actually pretty thin and light. As you can see here it's about the same thickness as an iPhone. One of the features Samsung has been pushing is the inclusion of the S Pen, or smart pen which the company doesn't want being confused with a stylus. This is a stylus, though, with a button that's used to activate certain functionality like note taking and screen shots. The S Pen is just laggy enough and the screen isn't quite big enough to make note- taking worthwhile. And the button's placement on the pen means you'll be accidentally bumping it while you try to write, which in turn interrupts your writing, which adds up to you rarely, if ever, using the pen for anything. Don't get me wrong, the pen is kind of cool, but it's not very useful. AT & T's 4G LTE network is fast and stable here in the Boston area at least. The Note was able to pull down data at about half the speed of my home Comcast connection and actually uploaded data much faster. Thanks to the Note's bigger size, it's got a bigger battery. So battery life is also pretty solid. You'll need to recharge at night but you should be able to get through an entire day with ease. So that's the Samsung Galaxy Note, 300 bucks on AT & T with a two- year contract, 4G LTE phone, blazing fast. Is it a phone or is it a tablet? Yes, says Samsung's marketing material. Get it? It's really more of a phone though.
