## Transcript

>> Tonight's debate is the only one with a Town Hall format. We're gonna have our first question from over here in Section A, from Alan Sheafer.

>> With the economy on the downturn, and retired and older citizens and workers losing their incomes, what is the fastest, most positive solution to bail these people out of the economic ruin?

>> The middle class made a rescue package.

>> And it's got to do with energy independence.

>> Oliver Clark, who is over here in Section F. Oliver?

>> Through this economic crisis, most of the people I know have had a difficult time, and to this bailout package, I was wondering what it is that's gonna actually help those people out.

>> We're gonna have to buy up these bad loans.

>> This is not the end of the process. This is the beginning of the process.

>> From Theresa Finch.

>> How can we trust either of you with our money, when both parties got us into this global, economic crisis?

>> When George Bush came into office, we had surplus.

>> The system in Washington is broken.

>> 78- year- old Fiora from Chicago. Since World War II, we have never been asked to sacrifice anything to help our country, except the blood of our heroic men and women. As President, what sacrifices; sacrifices will you ask every American to make?

>> There are some programs that we may have to eliminate.

>> There is going to be the need for each and every one of us to start thinking about how we use energy.

>> From Ingrid Jackson.

>> I want to know what you would do within the first two years to make sure that congress moves fast as far as environmental issues like climate change and green jobs?

>> What's the best way of fixing it? Nuclear power.

>> If we create a new energy economy, we can create five million new jobs.

>> Lindsey Trollough. Lindsey?

>> Selling healthcare coverage in America as a marketable commodity has become a very profitable industry. Do you believe healthcare should be treated as a commodity?

>> We gotta have somebody who is fighting for patients.

>> We have got to give people choice in America.

>> Phil Elliott is over here in this section.

>> How will all the recent economic stress affect our nation's ability to act as a peacemaker in the world?

>> Nations that are strong militarily over time have to have a strong economy as well.

>> We need that 10 billion dollars a month here in the United States.

>> From Katy Em. Katy?

>> Should the United State respect Pakistani sovereignty and not pursue Al- Quaeda terrorists who maintain bases there, or should we ignore their borders and pursue our enemies like we did in Cambodia during the Vietnam War?

>> If we have Osama Bin Laden in our sights, then I think that we have to act.

>> Where necessary, use force.

>> Terry Sherry.

>> As a retired Navy Chief, my thoughts are often to those who serve our country. I know both candidates; both of you express support for Israel. If despite your best diplomatic efforts, Iran attacks Israel, would you be willing to commit US troops and support in defense of Israel? Or would you wait an approval from the UN Security Council?

>> We obviously would not wait for the United Nations Security Council.

>> We will never take military options off the table.

>> This is coming from the Internet and from the state that you are strongly contesting, both of you, is from Peggy in Amherst, New Hampshire. It has a certain Zen- like quality, I'll give you a fair warning; She says what don't you know and how will you learn it?

>> My wife Michelle is there, and she could give you a much longer list than I do; and most of the time, I learn it by asking her.

>> What I don't know is what the unexpected will be.

>> One of the things that we know about the Presidency.

>> When I have spent my whole life serving this country.

>> It's never the challenges that you expect. It is the challenges that you don't.
