You need the largest emptiest expansive nothing to aim for. For the Americans this has always meant the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. For the Russians it means the vast desolate frozen expanse Of Kazakhstan. [ MUSIC ] The people who don't get enough credit in this are the search and rescue teams. The highly trained groups that have to converge on the likely landing site, to be at that spot when When the astronauts descend and to bring them safely from the steppe.

It's not an easy job and no one One is equipped to do it better. [ BLANK_AUDIO ] Now I have one more full day in space after this. [ MUSIC ] I shaved my head and my face one last time. Before I go. [ BLANK_AUDIO ] It'd be nice to do that in my shower at home. [ BLANK_AUDIO ] I think I will live in there, in my shower. I might put like a La- Z- Boy and a TV in there, too. Never have to leave. After not taking a shower for practically a whole year. [ FOREIGN ]. [ FOREIGN ] We have kind of like on- orbit training that covers the decent procedures. We talk to the specialists on the ground about the whole operation from the time we close the hatch until we get Pulled out of the Soyuz.

[ MUSIC ] It's a pretty busy time. It's important, clearly, when you're coming back from space that we get everything right. As the space craft pushes off, the crew faces a hell of a ride ahead of him. They'll be slamming into the atmosphere at a speed of 17, 000 miles an hour. The temperature at the bottom of the space craft will rise to thousands Thousands of degrees, causing bits of the heat shield to burn off and flake away. This is not like landing at LaGuardia. [ FOREIGN ] [ FOREIGN ] [ NOISE ] I'm looking down at the earth right now And it's 250 miles below me. When that Soyuz hits the atmosphere going 17, 500 miles an hour, a lot of things have to happen just right to make sure that we touch down safely.

So when you look at that big space between us and the speed involved, It's pretty serious. [ MUSIC ] [ FOREIGN ] [ MUSIC ] [ NOISE ] [ FOREIGN ] [ FOREIGN ] [ BLANK_AUDIO ] [ FOREIGN ] [ FOREIGN ] [ FOREIGN ] [ FOREIGN ] [ MUSIC ] Mike he just waiting for the sun to come up early. [ MUSIC ] We spent so much time there and it took so long to get there; and you do take some time in preparing to leave. It takes about Week or so of throwing stuff out, cleaning up your inbox or your email, and you're sending stuff to the ground electronically, stuff you want to save. And then it's like all of a sudden it's like, gotta go.

See ya later. Space station for the last time. Thank you. Thank you for everything. See you on the ground. Your glasses. Goodbye, space station.
