## Transcript

Anyone else just so tired lately? I don't know about you, but I'm exhausted. Getting through the day can be really hard. Sometimes, you just got to take a nap. I'm Meg Zukin. I work at T Magazine, and napping. It's not just for babies anymore, but there is a correct way to do it. So stay awake, and I'll teach you how to take the perfect nap. Timing is everything. For most people, the best time we take a nap is between 1:00 and 4:00 P.M. But experts recommend staying consistent. That means you want to take your nap around the same time every afternoon. As for the length of your nap, most professionals recommend taking a nap that's around 20 to 40 minutes, but 15 to 20 minute naps have benefits too.

If you're hard core, feel free to sleep even longer. Once you get through the deep sleep stage, your brain will cycle back to lighter sleep after 60 minutes. It may sound counterintuitive, but drinking some coffee before your nap can actually make you feel more invigorated by the time you wake up. Metabolizing coffee takes around 30 minutes or the length of an ideal nap, meaning that you'll wake up right as it's kicking in, feeling perfectly energized. Of course, if you're hypersensitive to caffeine, you can skip this step. True nap professionals often create the perfect environment for their naps.

Sleeping y masks, white noise machines, and earplugs can help simulate a nap pod. Not everyone needs to nap, but they do need to rest. So if napping isn't your thing, try closing your eyes for 2 minutes. Like I'm doing now, it's helping already.
