## Transcript

While choosing a place to vacation, or even somewhere to call home, most of us want an easy to navigate destination, right? Well, it doesn't get much easier than walking. So what are some of the country's most walkable cities? Well, according to research released by real estate development group LOCUS, Washington, D. C. came in first, followed by New York City, Boston, San Francisco, and Chicago. Row housing, bike friendly communities, and great public transit, helped D. C. get the number one spot. There are benefits to walkable cities, other than just avoiding traffic jams and road rage. According to Active Living Research, people who live in walkable communities tend to get twice as much exercise, rather than those who drive everywhere.

In a related study, the Travel & Leisure 2013 America's Favorite Cities survey, editors asked visitors which destinations are the friendliest to pedestrians, and best for public transportation. Washington D. C. ranked eighth. Portland, Oregon, took the top spot. Disagree with these results? Well the 2014 Travel & Leisure America's Favorite Places survey is live now at TravelandLeisure. com. Thanks for watching I'm Lauren Gores.
