Here are the five richest NBA owners in the league. At number 5 is Miami Heat owner Micky Arison, worth $ 7. 1 billion. Arison made his money on the Carnival Cruise line. And in his time as owner of the Miami Heat, the franchise has won three championships. Number 4 is Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov, worth $ 7. 6 billion. The Russian billionaire and politician made his name in the financial sector, and went on to become one of Russia's leading industrialists in precious metals.

Prokhorov bought the Nets in 2010 with some big promises, but is yet to deliver a title. Denver Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke comes in at number 3, worth $ 7. 7 billion. Kroenke might be better known as the Rams' owner who moved the team to Los Angeles. He's made his own money in real estate and is also married to Ann Walton, a Walmart heiress. Portland Trailblazers' owner Paul Allen is worth $ 17. 5 billion and is the second wealthiest owner in the NBA. The co- founder of Microsoft alongside Bill Gates, Allen also owns the Seattle Seahawks and he's got a super bowl championship but is still waiting on an NBA title.

Steve Ballmer is not only the wealthiest owner Owner in the NBA. He's the richest owner of any sports team, worth $ 23. 5 billion. The former Microsoft CEO casually cut a check for $ 2 billion in 2014 to buy the Los Angeles Clippers. Palmer was just the second person in history to become a billionaire in US dollars based on stock options received as an employee of a corporation in which he was neither a founder nor a relative of a founder.
