He was the longest- serving death row inmate in Louisiana, and he didn't do it. Glenn Ford walked out of a prison in Angola Tuesday a free man. After prosecutors admitted they convicted the wrong one. Prosecutors petition state courts to release Ford based on new evidence obtained last year. They declined to say what that evidence was, aside from the motion filed in court, in case the actual killer was ever caught. Ford was charged in the 1983 murder of Shreveport Louisiana jeweler, Isadore Roseman. Ford has always maintained his innocence. I was locked up almost 30 years. Prosecutors wrote the evidence would have more than acquitted Ford.

Indeed, if the information had been within the knowledge of the state, Glenn Ford might not even have been arrested, or indicted for this offense. But Ford's attorneys, and some media outlets analyzing the case argued it shouldn't have taken new evidence to free him, because it was a flawed investigation. The Atlantic reports the person who first pointed the police to Ford was the girlfriend of another suspect. And she later admitted police helped her make up a story. Neither of Ford's attorneys worked in criminal law, an all white jury convicted him, and among the experts prosecutors called to the stand was a coroner who never examined the victim's body.

I can't go back and do anything that should have been doin' when I was like 35. 38, 40, stuff like that. My sons, when I left, was babies, now they're grown men with babies. The Innocence Project told WAFB wrongfully convicted inmates can get $ 25000 from the state for every year they were imprisoned, with a cap of $ 250000.
