She was on her school's committee to help plan the city's largest inauguration celebration attended by more than 3, 500 students. >> This is such a big event because he's our first African- American president. We're gonna have a chant. We're gonna have drummers, steppers, singers. -[ Music Playing ] >> Borrowing from Barack Obama's message of change, the event gave students a chance to express of their most pressing concerns and hopes. >> The big thing I wanna see changed is the one of Iraq. I hope it stops. I hope that we can bring the troops home. I hope that we can celebrate it together. I hope that we can save billions of dollars of money. Stop this war. It's insane. It's crazy. >> I think he's gonna make like the economics a little better, the violence. I think he's like actually gonna change the world. >> As the time came for Barack Obama to take the oath, the room grew quiet with anticipation. >> Now that everything is over, he is president now, I feel proud that America has come this far and see this event. >> My favorite part about this event is the people who is coming here to celebrate it as a community. This has been really amazing. >> By becoming President of the United States and the first black president of the United States, he has taught most black African-- all black African- Americans that you don't have-- you don't have to be a certain skin color or a certain race to do something. If you want it, then you just have to work hard to achieve that certain goal. >> The adults in the crowd were also excited, but some more cautiously optimistic. >> Just because you have a black president, it's not gonna change a lot of other people's minds. I think it's a start. I think it's a place that we could say, as a country, we have come so far. But yet still as a people, we have a ways to go. >> Still, he says this historic moment has inspired his students to dream big. >> For them, it's now-- their slogan is anything's possible and I want them to believe that. And first, they were like, we can't be president. Now, we have an African- American president, anything is possible.
