[ MUSIC ] Hamilton is a story about America. And the most beautiful thing about it, is that it's told by such a diverse cast with such diverse styles of music. We have the opportunity to reclaim A history that some of us don't necessarily think is our own. [ MUSIC ] Years ago when I first performed the opening, what would be the opening number to the show, and the president had just been elected. [ MUSIC ] To be doing a show that is obviously so relevant not just a country but to that Office in particular for me, playing George Washington as a black first president, one of the first black presidents was pretty neat.

[ APPLAUSE ] And this is something that was created with him in mind, and so to have him out there in row H While we got to sing a song like history has its eyes on you, was everything. [ MUSIC ] When Chris Jackson steps forward as a biracial man and says he's George Washington, the first president of our country We don't get divorce ourselves from the new image that we have of a biracial man as the president of our country. It's about illuminating all of the ways that we are similar, and not different. [ MUSIC ]
