## Transcript

Our invention is the pedestrian alert system, and it is a crossing mechanism that we designed for the streets of Ethiopia. And it utilizes two lasers, I mean two sensor systems that have two lasers, and using the time difference between when a car breaks the first and second beam, calculates the velocity of the vehicle. And when we get past the crosswalk, cars passing this way He breaks the first beam. You hear the sound, and then breaks the second beam. Right now, it's not safe to cross, cuz the car would be coming. This is not set to scale, obviously. But a car would be coming towards the the crosswalk.

The system turns red to let the pedestrian know that it's not safe to cross. And then turns green, once he's received a safety confirmation from both sides of the street. These two designs, show the, possible artistic outcome of the structure. So this one's based on the Ethiopian national monument called Axum, and that one is based off Ethiopian art. It has wings. To which are very prevalent in Ethiopian art.
