In the market for a new home? Then you already know that finding the right real estate agent can seem as overwhelming as finding the right house. But don't worry, we'll help you find the perfect pro. I'm Kristen Bellstrom and your money minute is starting right now. [ MUSIC ]. First, let's talk credentials. You'll definitely want a buyer's agent who's licensed by the state and who does the job full time. Keep an eye out for pros who belong to the National Association of Realtors, which requires that members abide by a strict code of ethics. Many experts recommend going with an agent who has at least five years of experience.

That's a good rule of thumb. But don't be afraid to break it if you find someone you like and trust. One way to start the hunt is to ask friends and family for referrals. And remember, you want someone who knows the area where you're shopping inside and out. You'll rely on him or her to know the local market trends, school districts, commute times, and much, much more. To get a sense of an agent's track record. Ask to see a list of homes he sold recently. Make sure these are the types of places you'd like to see, and check to see how much they sold for. Also, ask to see some current listings in your price range.

Finally, interview at least three candidates before you make a decision. Getting the right pro on your side will be worth that extra time and effort. And that is 60 seconds well spent. [ MUSIC ]
