## Transcript

Women go through their reproductive years, whether they choose to have children or not. And then we all go through this natural transition of midlife and we go through perimenopause and menopause. For too long, it was as if society, this was an invisible issue, and we didn't focus on it, when in fact all women. So 50% of our population go through it. There is so much work to be done because the truth is, today, even my friends who have good access to health care go into the health care system and they have to see two, three, four doctors until they can get their symptoms properly diagnosed. And so when you look at the data, it's because a third of ob gyn residencies teach anything about perimenopause and menopause.

Only one third. And so we need to make sure all OB gyns are fully trained about this time in life. Same with primary care doctors, mental health practitioners, nurses, midwives, doulas. The research should have been started more than 50 years ago is the truth. We should have have had many, many, many studies about this period of life, this midlife for women, so that we have different tools, not just hormone replacement therapy. This is a really, really important area for women's health that has been neglected for far too long.
