## Transcript

Well, political season is getting into high gear right now, so we have Taylor Tepper, he is a writer of Money. And Taylor, you're here to tell us why we have to not let our emotions prompt us to do something in our portfolio because of politics. Yes. And what's going on with this? So people aren't very rational. They are emotional. They have a lot of non- rational factors that involved with their selling or buying of stocks or bonds. And one of the big emotional thing that happens this time of year is the election. And people equate what's going on in the election with how they think their portfolio will do over time.

And this is a terrible mistake. So knowing that it's going to creep in and we're gonna say things like well, if it's this one, then this sector will do well, and this one, this industry will do well. How can we prevent ourselves from doing those emotional knee jerk moves in our portfolio? I think the first thing is to realize that you have emotion. That you are an emotional creature, you're not rational and recognize that. The second thing to do is to recognize or to understand that things don't follow a linear path. So everyone says Obama is gonna be terrible for gun manufacturers or health care is gonna be destroyed because of Obamacare.

Well, Smith and Wesson has done extremely well, healthcare plans are doing extremely well So it's not a very linear path as to what people think is going to happen and how it actually turns out in the real world. We're just not that smart, so don't try and game it out. Okay, and then, what if somebody says but no? Taylor. I know that I gotta do something. Right. How should we help that person do something but not blow up the rest of the game plan? Exactly. So, if you have an itch that's irresistible and you just gotta scratch it Be active with 5 % of your portfolio, 10 % of your portfolio. Limit the damage that you're going to do.

So, statistically, I think we have to agree that there will be a recession- Yes. In the next four years regardless of who is in on this. Exactly. Yeah, there is going to be a recession. It's been a really long time since we've had a recession. It was a really bad recession but it's been a really long time since Since it's happened. It's going to happen sometime soon. And it's just the timing of the thing. So there is going to be bad stuff that happens. It will overlap with whoever is elected President. That doesn't necessarily mean whoever is elected President caused that recession. It's just something that happened.

So don't let politics blur your long term investment goals, right? Yes, exactly. Politics are very important. People feel very emotional about it. These are really important issues that affect people's lives. Vote based on who you think is going to be the best for your political point of view, for your social point of view, but don't let your politics influence how you will retire. Taylor Tepper, thank you so much for joining us. Thank you. And thanks for watching. [ MUSIC ]
