## Transcript

A deadline set by the United States for Israel to increase the flow of aid into the Gaza strip has arrived, and international aid groups are giving Israel a failing grade. In a letter last month, the US gave Israel 30 days to improve the situation. It called for a dramatic surge in the flow of badly needed food and supplies, and it said that military support for Israel could potentially be curtailed if there wasn't improvement. Eight aid groups, including Oxfam and Care and other major providers say that Israel has come nowhere close to meeting the goals outlined by the US. They accuse the Israeli army of hindering deliveries and failing to provide security for them to operate.

Israeli officials say they've made a genuine effort to improve things. They've announced a number of moves in recent weeks, that includes the opening of a fifth border crossing meant to increase the flow of goods into Gaza. They say that aid agencies are doing a poor job of distribution, and they accuse Hamas and even criminal gangs of stealing aid. Israel and the Biden administration have been at odds over the humanitarian situation in Gaza for much of the war. But with only two months left in his term, it's unclear whether President Joe Biden is willing or able to take any action against the Israelis.
