[ MUSIC ] The NBA season is tipping off. Here's what you need to know. [ MUSIC ] NBA Commissioner David Stern announced that he'll be stepping down on February 1st, 2014. When David Stern took over the league in 1984. It was beginning to ascend because Larry Bird and Magic Johnson had already won championships. A few months later, the Chicago Bulls drafted a guy named Michael Jordan. [ MUSIC ] It doesn't take someone with an advanced degree to sell Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Magic Johnson. So, what David Stern did was aggressively market these gifts that laid on his desk when he took over.

And deserves a ton of credit for realizing the global potential of the NBA. This is a mega all- star team. Pau Gasol and Dwight Howard in the middle. And Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash in the back court. They're really going for another championship before Kobe Bryant kind of fades away. And if the Lakers can get passed the Oklahoma City Thunder, still a young fresh team, there's a dream NBA finals on the horizon. [ MUSIC ] The Nets, who have been an afterthought for years, are moving from New Jersey, to Brooklyn. They resigned Darren Williams, one of the best point guards in the league. And signed Atlanta Hawks star Jo Johnson, and so some very formitable back court.

The Knicks didn't wanna offer Jeremy Lin as much money as the Houston Rockets did. They didn't think the hype was gonna last. So, who do they bring in to play point guard? Jason Kidd, who is old. [ LAUGH ] He's still a very good player, but he's in his upper thirties. They brought in a guy named Kurt Thomas. A guy named Markus Tannen, Rashede Wallace came out of retirement so the Knicks got old fast. Can they challenge the Heat if the old guys get an injection of the fountain of youth? It's a possibility, who knows. As usual there's the Miami heat other stuff to watch, the Thunder Kevin Durant, it's going to be one of the more exciting seasons in the NBA.
