## Transcript

A San Francisco non- profit turned a public bus into a relief effort for the cities homeless and it hopes to convert several more. A non- profit group has converted a former public bus into a mobile shower in San Francisco. The goal is to give the homeless people a place to clean up. The bus comes with a toilet, shampoo, soap, and towels. At $ 75, 000 to retrofit a shingle bus into two private showers and toilets. The creators of Lava Mae say the program is more about ending individual hopelessness than an entire city's homelessness. The great recession drained the number of city shower facilities from ten to seven.

Forcing the homeless to put their names on waiting lists just to clean up. That with hygiene comes dignity and with dignity. Opportunity. Lava Mae's first bus rolled onto San Francisco's streets in late June, and founder Doniece Sandoval says she hopes to have a handful of others ready by next year. But her idea spotlights a sore point for many in the bay area. The benefactor of Silicon Valley and the tech industry, San Francisco has regularly been labeled a city under class warfare in recent years. From organizations fighting middle class evictions to exposes by an NYU and Harvard researcher.

Advocates say San Francisco is becoming more elitist as real estate values and cost of living skyrocket. The founder and former CEO of Salon. com David Talbut wrote in March, San Francisco is fast becoming a city of billionaires and beggars. With middle- class and working families priced out of the city. Earlier this year, the Brookings institution ranked San Francisco the second worst city of the nation for earnings inequality. The top tier of incomes in San Francisco where 17 times higher than residents in the bottom fifth of earnings. The 2013 San Francisco homeless survey listed more than 64 hundred homeless people in the city.

The San Francisco examiner reports private donations, including $ 100, 000 from Google funded the new showerbus program. Thanks for watching, I'm Claude Judy.
