It was the picture of this little kid, this little lady. That was the first picture that I sent to Reuters. We just arrived, like, 3 a. m. At the beginning, it was really, really quiet, you know? A lot of buildings fell down. There was no light. At that moment, everyone was at the street, you know, taking care of them, of their families and it was silence, only silence of the street. We started to shoot 3 a. m. I think we finished, like, 12 p. m. We needed to start to drive motorcycles to see what's going on in the city, and we started to shoot all day, all day. In Port- au- Prince, I think we started to shoot pictures in a place called Delmas. There was a lot of destruction over there so it was, like, buildings fell down everywhere, people screaming, you know, things like that, people yelling. At that moment, I saw this little girl coming and I started to walk, you know, and I started to see that the doctors there are doing, like, take-- doing treatment with the people and I saw this little girl and I say, " Hey, little girl, yeah. You are okay. Don't worry, everything is gonna be okay. You are okay ," and I started to shoot, like, little frames like 3, 4 frames of her. I don't know, really. I don't know why she's looking at me. Probably she's looking for some help, you know, around her or probably she's hoping that we can help all the Haitian people. They don't have enough money to put, like, good materials for construction, and they live, like, in hills so it's difficult-- it's difficult, don't get, like, these kind of disasters because it's like avalanche. I don't know how you'd call that. It's like domino [ unk ]. I think that those moments you need to be conscious, you know? As a photographer you don't have time to think. You need to start shooting and to show the people, you know, to show the world what's going on in this-- in this place. I think this was the most difficult assignment that I had but I hope that the Haitian people, they can have a real good future, you know? They need this good future for the people and they need to start to think what they going to do with their country.
