That is how they found each other, amid mud and heat in earthquake ravaged Haiti. >> It was a turning point in my life. I was searching for the next phase, trying to find what I was supposed to be doing and I felt a calling to go and serve in some other place around the world. >> Then the quake struck. He hopped on a plane from his hometown in Georgia and flew to Haiti with a non- profit called Haiti Outreach Ministries. -[ Foreign Language ] >> He quickly learned Creole and started leading Haitian crews at a site [ unk ], an impoverished suburb of Port Au Prince. The ministry has also built schools and medical clinics. It also constructed this church. -[ Foreign Language ] >> This was the spiritual experience Stephen was looking for. And then, something even more incredible happened. >> I first met Autumn in March of 2010. As the late March, beginning of April, their team came down with HOM to build a house. >> At first, the two were only friends working together during the day, talking for hours at night. Then chemistry percolated. >> One night we were sitting in one of the classrooms talking, and he started to dance around, the question, he is asking me out on a first date. >> I was a little scared. She is a beautiful girl. But I planned a trip up the mountain with her, to a place that's called [ unk ] in Creole. In English we call it The View. >> He took me to this beautiful spot where you could see the entire Port Au Prince area. You could see the beach, and the far mountain range, and it was an incredible day. >> After her two week volunteer stint ended, Autumn returned to the U. S. Then she decided to return to Haiti to see Stephen. She took a job working full time in one of the medical clinics where she sees Haitian patients and tends to babies. >> It's been an incredible experience working the clinic and to be able to be a small part of offering help to people and meet some of their basic needs. >> She says life in Haiti isn't easy. She has witnessed the cholera epidemic, a hurricane, and election riots. Still, the love for Stephen blossomed. -[ Foreign Language ] >> Getting to work with him on a daily basis and to see his heart and his passion as he is working and he is very interesting. I wouldn't fall in love if he weren't. >> In August 2010, Autumn's dad came to visit. This is a video shot by Autumn's father. >> This is where we came on our first date. It only wasn't quite this pretty in our first date. >> Looking out of the mountains and the sea, Stephen reached into his pocket, pulled out a ring, and popped the question. Autumn said yes. They plan to get married this March in Ohio. In the meantime, life continues. After a long day of work, they spend time together. Stephen's swats at mosquitoes and Autumn tried to plan her wedding with a shaky internet connection. Still, after they tie the knot, they plan on coming right back to the place and people they have come to love. >> Haiti is a beautiful place. You wouldn't think that Haiti is so beautiful. The mountains are beautiful. The sky is beautiful. The landscape is beautiful.
