## Transcript

[ MUSIC ] I don't think there's anything in the world that brings friends and family together to celebrate good times and commiserate over the bad times like spirits. Whiskey brings people together and I think that's just an absolutely fantastic thing. That is tasty. My name's Paul Hletko. I'm the president, founder, and distiller at Few Spirits. A small grain- to- glass craft distillery right here in Evanston, Illinois. [ MUSIC ] I was originally kind of inspired to drop a fully functioning career to where I was succeeding and doing quite well based on just a sincere passion. And a sincere hatred of what I was doing.

Being a lawyer helped me a great deal in being able to change all the laws To enable alcohol production to occur in the home of prohibition. when we fired up the stills for the first time, it was the first alcohol ever made here in town. [ MUSIC ] [ BLANK_AUDIO ] I've always been the person who's really inspired to create and I really get excited about creating something that's new and creating something that's different, and several years back I got inspired. My grandfather died, and before WWII, his family had owned what's now a major brewery in the Czech Republic. In 1939 the Nazis invaded, they took the brewery and the whole family was killed in the camps.

My grandfather was the only survivor. And after war he spent the rest of his life trying to get through this. When he died it kind of struck me that if I didn't do something to recapture this family legacy it would be gone forever. So, Few Spirits is my attempt to reconnect with family, reconnect with history and do something in a positive way. [ MUSIC ] Well Few Spirits is one of the leading grain to glass distilleries in the United States. We actually bring in grain into our facility. We mash it, we ferment it, and we distill it, and then we age it right here in the rack house and turn it into whiskey.

[ MUSIC ] The goal for Few Spirits is to make the best whiskey in the world. Successes range from being sold across four continents and 25 countries and 22 states. Our rye whiskey was named Whisky Advocate magazines craft whiskey of the year. We have more gold and silver medals than we can shake a stick at. And it's something that we're really proud of. In any business there's always going to be road bumps and we've certainly hit our fair share. We've been pretty lucky with most of our road bumps because they're the road bumps that are the good ones. Like you know we don't have enough supply. There's more demand than we can fill.

But there's always roadblocks and I think that's the key is being an entrepreneur is rolling with it. [ MUSIC ] With it. Anybody wants to leave their career and start a second act, I think the best advice is you can do it, you just have to be prepared. You have to have something that you actually want to do, because you want it more than anybody else. [ MUSIC ]
