## Transcript

A recent survey shows a sharp trend toward secularity over the last three years. At least for those who read the Bible, the survey commissioned in January by the American Bible Society shows there's now a balance between those engaged with the Bible and Bible skeptics. The survey defines engagement as those who read their Bible on a regular basis and those who believe the Bible is the inspired word of God. Skeptics believe the Bible was not divinely inspired. But instead, merely a collection of teachings and advice. The survey shows, over the past three years, the proportion of skeptics rose 9 %, to a total of 19 %.

It also found one in five Americans doubt its relevance and authority. That's twice the number of people who were skeptical back in 2011. Most of the skeptics were 18 to 29 years old. But, Roy Peterson, CEO of American Bible Society, says the trend may reverse itself in time. American adults, young and old alike, overwhelmingly recognize a moral decline is taking place in the nation. As they seek solutions, we hope they will find the Bible as the guidebook that can reverse the decline. Thank for watching. I'm Cliff Judy.
