Right away, it was just kind of a, like a, punch to the gut. As an athlete, whose whole life is dedicated to this one moment in time, training for like 21 seconds, and you put all your energy into that moment, and you make so many life decisions based on it. And to find out that, that one thing that you've put so much into isn't happening in the timing that you imagined. It's a, it's a heavy moment. And I would say that was the hardest to think about. You know, can I still do this? I'm going to be a year older. Can I ask my family to make that sacrifice again? I feel like I had to take the time, you know, to grieve that it wasn't going to happen the way that I imagined. To find the strength to pivot, I really just credit leaning in to my people, my family, my coach. Them uplifting me that, you know, this is still gonna happen. And you still can do all of this. We had to continue to train and continue to do it at a really high level. But we didn't have the facilities, you know, we were constantly being kicked off of tracks. My coach came out and he took his measuring wheel, and he measured off different distances around my neighborhood. I never thought I would be sprinting past my home and you know, seeing neighbors and my daughter, and you know, just this weird feeling of all of that happening. Oh what a beautiful moment, "We're going to Tokyo." Having a daughter has just been the biggest shift in motivation. I can't wait to tell her what these last years of adversity have been like and how to overcome. And I think that'll be the most rewarding, but it has been really challenging, you know, to parent during a pandemic and to, you know, to find the strength to be present in both places and to still want to give my best in every area. I think I've had moments where I've just had to say, "I don't have this all figured out." And that's okay. I've had to consciously choose to hold on to hope and to hold on to all that's positive around me. That's really helped me through some of the dark moments. I think for a long time success to me was medals and records. I think as I've gotten older, success has looked a bit different. It looks like, how am I able to use my platform? How am I able to impact change? By whatever decisions or choices or things I've been able to stand up for, to me that's success. To be able to walk away from a sport and hopefully leave it better than I found it.
