## Transcript

For a lot of people who have a boss, it's unconformable for them to say, ask for a raise. One of the things that I always encourage people to do is to create what I call a praise folder. A praise folder is essentially a way in which you document All the accomplishments that you've achieved, the sort of attaboys when people have patted you on the back. You take that praise folder, whether it's an email, whether it's a card, whether it's just notations about sales that you've generated, new ideas that you dreamed up, initiatives that you've launched. And show, sometimes in monetary terms, you value to an organization.

So that's one great way to kind of get the conversation started. I also think people need to know about the environment in wich they're operating, and not be willing to take no, because a no from an employer, when you're talking about getting a pay raise or promotion. Really just means no, not right now. You should establish what is the benchmark, what are the criteria under which I am eligible to get a promotion? And really listen carefully to the feedback that an employer tells you, for example. Don't just take a no and sort of feel like you have to walk out of the office with your tail between your legs practically.

That's not the way to go about having a productive conversation about getting ahead financially. Actually. [ MUSIC ].
