## Transcript

[ MUSIC ] Sleep deprivation is the new smoking and marketable behaviors are coexisting. We have people who are still bragging about how little sleep they get and congratulate employees about working 24- 7, which is the cognitive equivalent of coming to work drunk. But at the same time we have Aetna, that has invited the employees to participate in a program where they track their sleep. And if they get seven hours or more for twenty days, they get $ 300. This is an amazing peeping point to have a major public company recognize. That when their employees get enough sleep, this just doesn't help them in terms of their health and their productivity.

It directly helps the bottom line of the company. We're working harder than ever. And yet last year, we lost 11 days of productivity per employee. Because of the fact that when we're burnt out we're not as engaged, we're not as productive, we're not as creative and we make many more mistakes. The people who are going to do best at work, who are going to be rewarded both financially and in terms of every aspect of career advancement, are the people who are the most creative. The people who can find solutions around problems. Who can see opportunities before others see them. Who can see the icebergs before they hit the Titanic.

And all these functions are degraded when we're sleep deprived. [ MUSIC ]
