## Transcript

Should you eat tofu four our of five of our experts say yes. Tofu is a meat less master of disguise a serving pecks nine grams of protein and. And even more iron, gram for gram, than a lean cut of steak. Plus it has far more calcium, no cholesterol, and a fraction of the fat. It's been a staple in Asian pop. Populations for thousands of years. " The traditional Okinowan diet is one of the most tofu rich in the world" says Bradley Willcox. " The Okinowans have some of the world's longest lifespans, and lowest rates of cancer, heart disease, and dementia. And though it's controversial, there's no evidence that soy is harmful" says Martin Bosland.

There is however, evidence that it may be beneficial. Several studies have shown that soy is linked to a lower risk of breast cancer, a better survival rate among people with lung cancer, lower levels of inflammation, and a smaller risk of hip fractures in women says dietician Cameron Wells. Keep in mind though, that 93 % of soy in America is genetically modified, says Elena Giordano. There's no solid evidence of real harms caused by GMOs but if you're worried you can buy organic. Just be sure you're eating tofu the way it's meant to be eaten says Kristin Kirkpatrick. Not as tofu ice cream
