## Transcript

The outlook is great for the job market in 2015. It's really an employee's market, a buyer's market. The unemployment rate is well below 6 % and it's supposed to be even lower by the end of 2015. So we're getting back to pre- recession levels. And you see employees much more optimistic. But one of the best indicators, one of the most telling indicators [ UNKNOWN ] Is how worried employers are about hanging on to their talent. More than half of employers say the number one concern is hanging on to their highest performing workers, and that's up from 20 % just a couple of years ago. Nobody is out of the woods yet.

I mean, you have to be a top performer to get the top raises. The average raise this year is gonna be about 3 % versus 2. 9 % last year. But for top performers, you can expect to get 5 or 6 %, so you wanna make sure you're in that, that valued category. So you're in the drivers seat, if you are employed in 2015. People are much more attractive to future employers if they already have a job, the so called passive job seeker. So, you should definitely answer calls if you get them from recruiters. You should peruse job openings, talk to peers about where hiring is and see if there's something that you wanna take on as a new challenge.

So you're at a company where it's sort of pulling back or not in a great industry, you wanna look now while you can get ahead of. Any kind of cuts in your job. Things are still really tough for the long- term unemployed. Folks who have been out of work six months or longer. And we still have a large number of them even though the numbers are dwindling. It's tough to get back in the job market. And a lot of people are either under employed or working part time. Not up to their, their full potential. What you need to do is show that you've been active and that you are keeping your skills up [ MUSIC ] Up to date.

There are a lotta ways you can do that. Taking online courses, especially in fields and areas that are hot like social media, maybe database management. Get out to industry conferences. Talk to people. Take on temporary work if you can find it. You need to show that you're proactively looking and keeping your skills up to date. And that's gonna improve your chances. This for landing a new job. [ MUSIC ]
