[ MUSIC ] The latest data is out for raises in the coming year. The news isn't too great for the average worker. The typical raise for the coming year is just 3 %. But Towers Watson found an even more troubling trend. More companies are eliminating the annual performance review. That's the time when you would naturally talk to your boss about getting a pay raise. Without that, the burdens on you to find a good time to talk to your boss about making more money. First, have you accomplished anything in the past year worth talking about? Have you added a new skill or headed up a project? Where you did really well, you have to give your boss a good reason to give you more money.

Have your job responsibilities changed? If you've added new duties and you've done a good job, that's a great way to open a conversation with your boss. Do other people think you're great? A good way to warm up your boss to the conversation is to get other people to toot your horn for you. Ask a customer or trusted client to drop your boss note about how much they like working with you. Me thinks I am worth more moolah. Is your job in demand? Ask yourself, would you be easy to replace or would your boss find a lot of candidates would be willing to work in your job for the same amount of money?

Finally, how is your company doing? That might be the most important question of all. It's just as important how well your company is performing as you are. Afer all, if your company isn't investing in your division ] or there are budget freezes it's gonna be hard to have someone give you more money. Perhaps the final question you should ask yourself is whether you're willing to look for a new job. If you've answered all the questions above you should know what to do. [ MUSIC ]
