## Transcript

That iconic green symbol. The promise of caffeinated cups coming from? Wait a minute, the coffee shop with lines stretching around corners in LA this weekend wasn't Starbucks. It was Dumb Starbucks.

>> So they've just opened on Friday, the logo on the store is exactly the same as Starbucks, but the word 'Dumb' added to it. The imitation coffee chain claimed it can get away with this.

>> For the record, the real Starbucks says, it's aware of the dumb one. It would appear whoever is behind the mystery coffee shop anticipated someone might to take them to court. As customers noted, Dumb Starbucks posted a frequently asked questions flyer justifying its existence, but not at all explaining its origins. By adding the word 'Dumb', we are technically making fun of Starbucks, which allows us to use their trademarks under a law known as Fair Use. The theoretically legal use of Starbucks' trademark was perhaps aided through the weekend by all of those cups of coffee being free and therefore, no one's apparently making money of the brand so far.

So how 'dumb' is Dumb Starbucks? The Los Angeles Times reports, dumb jazz CDs were on display but not for sale. There were only 2 employees manning the store and only iced coffees and iced lattes were available if you could stomach them.

>> It's pretty horrible.

>> Ain't even good like I have no clue of what this is. But I supposedly ordered this.

>> But really, it's reality show.

>> We need latte for--

>> And I think there's camera in that as possibly should.

>> And maybe there's our hint, Dumb Starbucks popularity exploded after it got a little celebrity attention. Dan Harmon and Rainn Wilson posted pictures of the store over the weekend on Twitter and Instagram. Gawkers speculated, the fact that Dan Harmon of Community and Rainn Wilson were among some of the first to post about it on social media suggest a dumb TV show angle. So if attention is really what they're going for, maybe the store isn't so dumb after all. Thanks for watching. I'm Megan Judy.
