And vast stretches of land are still underwater here in the Province of Sindh. This is the village of Haji Jan Muhammad, an hour's helicopter ride from Karachi. The flood has transformed it into a desolate island. The world may have moved on from the Pakistani flood story, but there are hundreds of thousands of people still in desperate need. The U. N. says this disaster had affected more people than the 2004 tsunami and recent earthquakes in both Kashmir and Haiti combined. This World Food Programme aid is the first help these villagers have seen. The precious cargo of flour was unloaded within minutes. -[ Foreign language ] >> Ali Ismail was keen to help. He, like everyone else here, wanted to tell his story to know that somebody had acknowledged his suffering. He led me to where his home used to be. There's no trace of it. -[ Foreign language ] -[ Foreign language ] >> Four families lived here, he says. -[ Foreign language ] -[ Foreign language ] >> It's supposed to be the wheat season in this farming community. But there's no land to cultivate. -[ Foreign language ] >> The scale of destruction is staggering. An entire village of more than 60 families now lives on this small elevated mound. Abdul Sattar may be luckier than most. He lost his home, like just about everyone, but he managed to save a few items. -[ unknown language ] >> He keeps his priced possessions, a few blankets, here in one of the only houses still standing. This is all that the townsfolk collectively managed to save.
