Public confidence in the country's banking system was happening. And by the eve of inauguration, was close to collapse. Then on the most momentous day in recent US history, the 31st president surrendered to the 32nd, the leadership of a demoralized nation. Lights burned late in the White House that night. The new President makes his first dramatic stroke, the nationwide bank holiday by presidential proclamation. First of a series of moves that soon evolved into the New Deal program. Taken off the speech are the homeless and jobless. 300, 000 youngsters are enrolled in newly formed CCC camp. Thousands of others are given employment in public works projects that spring up across the land. For emergency relief work, four in the quarter billion dollars have been [ unk ]. The AAA starts functioning, and farmers plough crops under in exchange for government debts. The NIRA's blue eagle is born, and the nation's workers marched in the greatest peace time to raise of US history. Now, after 16 months of continuous action, during which year's driven bill after bills, to a tired, bewildered congress, he sets off for his first three case. >> Friends, I'm gonna be coming back, if the Civil Congress will let me. >> Greeting the President on his return home, are the first dark clouds of his administration. Drought and dust storms ravaging the west, three stage man made rivers. The Supreme Court and the series of crushing decisions, destroys the very keystone of his New Deal program, the NIRA and AAA. The emergency passes, but as unemployment continues, and relief cost mounts, enthusiasm begins cooling. Businessmen become nervous in frequent investigations. With the 4th year of Franklin Roosevelt's term, comes time for the elect with the Republican Party to review his records. He points to returning prosperity to his legislation for the forgotten men, to an adequate defense program in a world where peace fights a losing battle. To his successful thrive to conserve the country's resources, natural and human. Back to the White House as the nation endorses the New Deal. Back to the familiar desk which in the next four years of troubled world politics may well prove to be not only the highest position within the bestow of the American people, but the vocal points of world affairs goes Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
