## Transcript

(mellow music tones) - Fostering is so important. You're getting the dog away from the stressful environment of a shelter. The shelter is a scary place. It's loud, lots of smells, lots of people coming and going. I specifically ask for dogs that are harder to adopt, and that could be that they are older. I get a lot of older dogs, which, I love the senior dogs. I get dogs that have been injured or are recovering from an illness. I have been volunteering and fostering since 2012, and in that time I have fostered 89 dogs and probably about 15 kittens. Fospice dogs are dogs that have six months or less to live, and sadly, those dogs do come to the shelter, and I've taken in five fospice dogs over eight years.

And they've all come in as strays, which means they came to the shelter, and nobody came in looking for them. - One of the hardest things I've had to adjust to is when we do fospice. You get attached to the dogs, and it's one thing to know you're finding a home for them, but then it's another to watch them get old and die. We're given a dog that otherwise would spend his last days in a cage in a shelter. We're giving it a warm place to spend his last days. (mellow music) - My current foster dog is Tinkerbell, and she is blind. So she needs to go to a home without kids, because she easily startles.

So that's the home that I can look for, for her. I got to know her. I can be her best advocate. She is a happy, super active, loving dog. I am really fond of her, and I'm excited for her to find a home. All right. You're a good dog. - Bye. - Thank you. (mellow tinkly music)
