We're frustrated. We're sad at what we see on the news. And it's not enough to just do that. But you have to make a stand and come out and, and, and say what you believe. [ NOISE ] I'm out here because I'm a mom of three African American males. And Mark, my sons are all great kids, accomplished kids, are going to the top schools in the country, Harvard, Stanford and Princeton. And I know despite that in America there's still African American men, and the way things are, the system is a threat to them no matter what they've accomplished, who they are, what they are. And that could be my son. And I, I feel that as a mother of three African American children I could not stay home. Their lives matter. It's like the early anti- war marches in the in the Martin Luther King march in Washington and so it, this is the same kind of bitter excitement on people's part ,. But we can too easily be persuaded to leave it at this. We really have to legislate and change things. Well I'm outraged about the rampant police killings happening across the country, not just in New York, but from every. Small towns in big city in the United States there are police killings that are going unpunished. You know, for a minute, you know, they have to stop and listen to what it is that we're saying. They can't keep acting like we're not here. Like what we're saying doesn't matter. Like our lives don't matter. You have the whole issue with what happened in Ferguson. This all took place in Ferguson and then weeks, literally weeks after, you have the situation with, took place with Eric Gardner. And then I think somewhere in between that you had the issue with Tamara Rice. So two out of three of those were actually on videotape. And no indictments have been handed out. No repercussions has been handed out. Every 28 hours a black life is killed by the police. So it's not that anything different is happening now that has happened at any other point in history, it's just that people are starting to pay attention. With social media now we're able to communicate. We're able to say these things are not just happening in your community. It's not just Ferguson, it's happening in my. Think. It's happening in D. C ., you know. So this way we can all coordinate, we can all share our stories more easily because of the power of social media. [ MUSIC ] It's like this national spotlight on what is happening in black communities and how the police have long treated black. Communities and I think we felt like we wanted to be here as a family and be a part of the movement cuz it's our responsibility like anyone else's. As the news comes out right, you know that these men have been killed and you know the young women are being killed. You are left to wonder what happened to the family. I am wondering what Eric Gardner's family feels. I can only imagine and I can't, like it's awful. If we don't take it to the streets and like come out for folks, this will just keep going on and like I do this, we do this as a family because like we gotta do it.
