>> Hello again from Northern California. You know, these days everything is coming up GPS the global positioning devices that not only tell you where you are, they help you get to where you want to go. The iPhone even has GPS now and of course you've got devices that fit in your car. On that latter category, the one that's got me most excited these days is something called the Dash Express. It's unique in that It's internet connected, meaning that you can download it. Also it's a really great program that help extend its functionality. We thought we'd give it a little test drive. Why don't you come along with us?

The thing actually is a GPS with the little something extra.

>> Turn right on Solano Street.

>> But it costs about the same as other GPS retailing for around $ 300. What this gadget has over the others I've tried, is its internet connection that helps you deal with traffic better and offers all kinds of cool functions, which I'll show you in a minute. Before our test drive today, I entered the address for a market I know to see how the Dash would get us there.

>> We need to get gas.

>> Okay, well let's plug it into the Dash and see if we can find cheap fuel. The Dash can't do anything about the price of gas, but it will help you find the cheapest price in your buy. $ 4. 49, $ 4. 55. And if you do a little prep work at home before you hit the road, the Dash can do things for you that the other GPS devices simply won't do.

>> One really great thing about the Dash is because it's internet connectable, I can bring it in to my house and it finds my Wi- Fi network. I can even park it in my car close enough to my house so that it automatically attaches. I can go to the Dash homepage and go to a place that lists dozens and dozens of really neat little applications that I can choose ala carte and send to my Dash device so I can add little applications like Wikipedia so that if I'm driving around near, say, a tourist spot, I can punch it up on Wikipedia very easily and it will tell me what's interesting about this place.

Let's say I want to find ATM machines for my specific bank. Here's a-- Here's a little applet that I can add simply by hitting that little plus sign.

>> New saved searches.

>> I mean how cool is that? See, there is Wells Fargo ATMs. And when you're on the road, all those little applets are available at the touch of a button. You wanna see Wikipedia? Apparently it's not a full Wikipedia page, some toned down version of Wikipedia.

>> If we were in a complicated place, it would give us a choice of routes based on the available traffic data, top one routes. But this one is telling us that it's 6. 2 miles and based on the traffic around us, it'll take us 16 minutes. What the Dash does is it triangulates the current traffic using three data points. Dash subscribes to a traffic service. It has historic data that it compares it to, based on things like rush hour and what it knows about holiday traffic patterns, and finally and coolest of all, everyone of these Dashes not only receives information but it sends out information as well.

So anyone with a Dash in this general area is sending information back and that will give me up to the second traffic patterns.

>> In six point one mile, turn left onto the Rockport Avenue.

>> Can I have some money?

>> Sure! I guess that we could find an ATM that will take my Wells Fargo bank card. The Dash brought us directly to our destination; gas stop, and with money to buy what we need at the Mill Valley Market. You wanna see what Wikipedia has to say about Mill Valley?

>> No. I wanna go home.

>> Come on. What if I found us some interesting places to eat nearby?

>> No.

>> Okay. Okay. What if I get the old Dash here to find the closest movie theater?

>> No. I wanna go home. I wanna be like other children.

>> Oh come on. What about the cool car just nearby?

>> You're not really my father.
