The ultimate gift for dad as far as I'm concerned is a GPS system, if he doesn't already have one. Men in general hate asking for directions, but they love gadgets. Try arguing with your dad once he gets his GPS system. " Oh, dad, I think we should take the highway ." " Oh, really, son? This little box here says Magellan, named after a famous explorer. You write in a diary all day ." " It's called blogging. People make money blogging ." " That's ridiculous ." " You know what, dad? I can't believe I bought you this so I have to follow you dad. [ unk ] you ." That's not based on a true story. When you're looking for a GPS system, look for one that includes free lifetime traffic. There's a big push right now to include free lifetime traffic alerts on GPS systems. You can find them for well under 200 bucks, a lot of them under 150 bucks. Best buy, for instance, is selling Garmin Nuvi 255WT with lifetime traffic for 130 bucks this week. You should get your dad a smartphone if he's into that kind of thing, depending on the carrier he's already on. Here are a few options from the big four. AT & T, you've got the iPhone 4. Sprint, you have the HTC Evo 4G which is a good choice provided you're in a 4G coverage area. Verizon, the Droid Incredible is in fact incredible. And T- Mobile, you have the HTC HD2. And interestingly enough, this Saturday, T- Mobile will be giving away free phones of any value on a family plan. If you're looking for TVs, let me tell you about TVs. Forty- two inches is the new price sweet spot. You can get forty- two- inch TVs for under 500 dollars now, and there are plenty of decent ones available. And then finally something to think about kind of a unique gift, an Amazon prime membership. It's 79 dollars per year, and you get free two- day shipping on everything or overnight shipping for 4 dollars per item. Don't get dad a tie. Let's have a society that move away from ties. You don't need-- What do you need ties for? If people stopped buying them, everyone will stop wearing them. So no ties.
