## Transcript

June 25, 2009. It's been five years since that date. The day Michael Jackson died in Los Angeles at the age of 50. The 8th child of Joe and Katherine Jackson, Michael's path to super stardom started when he was just 6 years old. And became the lead singer of the Jackson Five. Michael moved on to a solo act in the 70s and cemented his status as the King of Pop in the early 80s with Thriller, the best selling album of all time. Michael continued to be a pop innovator in the 90s. Memorably collaborating with his sister Janet on the game changing music video for their song scream. He is one of the most awarded musicians ever, having been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame not once, but twice.

Michael collected multiple Guinness World Records. 13 Grammys and 26 American Music Awards, over the course of his career. With an estimated sale of more 400 million records worldwide. But Michael's pop star status came with a price, his life was heavily scrutinized by the media. His friendship with child stars like Corey Feldman and Macaulay Culkin were questioned. His marriage to Lisa Marie Presley was called a shame. His ever changing appearance became a punch line. And his fantasy themed compound at never land was seen as a bizarre place for a grown man to live. And in the mid 90s Michael was accused of child sexual abuse.

The case was settled out of court. You don't want to grow up. No I am Peter Pan. Jackson resurfaced in the 2003 ABC documentary, Living With Michael Jackson, which painted a unflattering picture of the pop star. Around the same time, Michael faced more sexual abuse allegations. He was found not guilty in 2005. Then the star started planning a comeback. This is it. This is it. Jackson was set to perform a series of concerts at London's O'Toole Arena in the summer of 2009, but those concerts never came to be. Jackson died of a drug overdose just weeks before. His doctor Conrad Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2011.

But was released from jail in late 2013. Daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine. Michael's memorial service was broadcast across the globe, and brought increased attention to his three children, Prince, Paris, and Blanket. The kids have seen some ups and downs in the last five years, with an ongoing custody battle between Michael's mom Katherine and Debbie Rowe, Prince and Paris's biological mother. Still Michael continues to entertain the world. Footage from his This Is It tour preparations was turned into a feature length concert movie of the same name. It grossed more than $ 260 million at the box office.

And, he has released two posthumous albums. The latest of which features a hit collaboration with Justin Timberlake. The King of Pop was also resurrected as a hologram for a performance at this year's Billboard Music Awards. Michael Jackson would have turned 56 this August.
