Last year on April 15th, the Boston Marathon bombings rocked the country during one of Bean Town's century- long traditions. [ SOUND ] The two bombs positioned near the finish line killed three people and injured more than 260 others, but out of the dust rose a stronger city, as evidenced by that slogan people rallied around all year. Tuesday marked one year since the tragedy. It's not an easy day. When I look back and realize it's only been a year and I'm getting around pretty well, I guess, um, you know, I, I couldn't be happier with my recovery process. To remember those who passed on that tragic day, the morning of the anniversary supporters laid wreaths where the bombs exploded.

Organizers also planned a flag- raising ceremony and a moment of silence at the marathon's finish line. In preparation for the anniversary, seemingly everyone has taken the time to honor the thousands affected. Sports Illustrated asked everyone in the city to come out and show what Boston Strong means for its latest cover and the people of Bean Town came out in a big way. This is gonna be one of those epic photos that lives, lives on. This is our backyard and somebody violated it and we just want to take it back. Two, three. [ SOUND ] Also the self proclaimed art project and social experiment Dear World and it's creator, Robert Fogerty ventured to Boston to commemorate the anniversary.

Finally, it was about reclaiming that space in a positive way. Instead of letting the tragedy break us we made a simple choice to keep running. President Obama released a statement on the tragic anniversary. When the sun rises over Boylston Street next Monday- Patriot's Day- hundreds of thousands will come together to show the world the meaning of Boston Strong as a city chooses to run again.
