Trying to care about money but you just can't do it. That particular issue, if you wanna call it that, former first daughter Chelsea Clinton, all over the headlines Monday. The coverage was in response to a piece run by The Telegraph Sunday, and included this quote from Chelsea. I've tried really hard to care about things that were very different from my parents. I was curious if I could care about money on some fundamental level, and I couldn't. That part about not caring about money, that's what set everyone off. Especially in light of recent comments from Chelsea's mother. We came out of the White House not only dead broke, but in debt. We had no money when we got there, and we struggled to, you know piece together the resources for mortgages for houses. Hillary made those remarks in an interview with ABCs Diane Sawyer earlier this month and it prompted a good deal of criticism from pundits who pointed out that most Americans can't say they own multiple houses. As mentioned, the 2016 presidential hopeful, as well as former President Bill have reportedly made millions off speaking engagements since their Whitehouse Stay. Back to Chelsea though. What's the problem with all that coverage Monday? Well, the 34- year- old's comments aren't exactly new. The quote actually first appeared in the May issue of Fast Company. That version in the Telegraph was just a reworked version of the original piece by writer Danielle Sacks. According to Politico's Dylan Byers, the Telegraph version appears under Sacks' byline, but makes no mention of it's prior publication in fast company. Sacks original article ran at roughly 5, 500 words. The telegraph's version is cut down to 2, 000. The other issue, Chelsea may not care about money because she simply doesn't have to. As talking points memo reports, Chelsea made a wooing $ 600 thousand per year while working in the special correspondent for NBC news between 2011 and 2013. Chelsea's name only appeared in story by lines nine times. According to New York Daily News she also spend a pretty penny on Madison park apartment, with Javier manager Mike Mlewsky $ 10. 5 million. All of this in the Chelsea Clinton comes for January. She went on in the original fast company peace and said she still haven't achieve her work ethic. I will just always work harder than anybody else and hopefully perform better. And hopefully, over time, I preempt and erase whatever expectations people have of me not having a good work ethic, or not being smart, or not being motivated. Outside of her NBC gig, Chelsea has worked in hedge fund management and consulting, even teaching at Columbia University School of Public Health. Clinton currently works for her family's charity The Clinton Foundation.
