## Transcript

[ MUSIC ] On the surface, Monrovia looks like any other bustling West African city. The streets are clogged with traffic, multiple people share taxis, and at nighttime the roadside bars are stuffed with people watching football games. Barcelona and [ INAUDIBLE ] are some of the favorites. You would never know that this is the epicenter. The outbreak of Ebola. But if you look a little closer, you can see what Ebola's wrought here. This is a friendly country. But no one shakes hands any more. People sit a little bit further apart at church [ INAUDIBLE ] and everyone, everyone is wearing rubber boots.

Cuz they're really easy to spray down with a bit of chlorine if you feel like you. There's not much in the way of terrorism here, so you don't see the metal detectors that would be common elsewhere in the world. What you do have is security guards armed with thermometers. One of the first signs of Ebola is a really high temperature. So you get your temperature taken, everywhere you go. Grocery stores, office buildings. I get my temperature taken four or five times a day. Frankly it's kind of comforting. People have started carrying around bottles of chlorine spray that they can spray their hands and their clothes if they come into contact with something.

Everywhere you go you have to wash your hands in a solution of chlorine and water. In fact the whole city sort of smells of [ MUSIC ] But in a way that also is comforting cuz you know that's one thing that can stop people [ INAUDIBLE ]. For Time Magazine this is Erin Baker.
