JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon announced Tuesday that he's been diagnosed with throat cancer. The 58 year old said that his condition is curable. In his statement, Dimon said, the good news is the prognosis from my doctors is excellent, the cancer was caught quickly. Dimon says he will stay involved in company business during treatment, which he expects to be an eight week run of radiation and chemotherapy. He will, however, limit his travel and the Wall Street Journal says he'll cancel visits with the prime ministers of Greece and Italy. Despite the reassurances, the news is prompting suggestions of how JPMorgan Chase would react should Dimon need to leave his position as head of the nation's largest bank.

The JP Morgan Chase has secession contingencies in place. People familiar with the banks plans told the New York Times, one possible successor could be the companies consumer bank head Gordon Smith. Diamond said in his statement he had no plans to succeed management responsibilities. The announcement comes the the 10 year anniversary of his appointment to the position of CEO.
